The Ombre Trend.. it really isn't that attractive.
The Ombre. The biggest trend that is making its way around the country. Why? I have no idea but I hate it. Ok, I partially lied, I like it. It all depends though. If you're going to do this, I would suggest taking your time and not jumping into dying your hair into something insane and then regretting it. Just saying. I also prefer to stick around something that looks more natural, as some people can get away with the different colors, I don't think I can so I stay away from it but if you can, and can make it look good.. Go For It!
If you're going to do it yourself, you need this stuff
For anyone who is obsessed with this whole "Ombre" trend going around, need to understand that it really isn't that attractive. I've seen a lot of different Ombre's and yes, some are cute and you should do it, however if you are going to do it do it right. The same thing with hair extensions, but that is a whole different story. So Ombre... although it really isn't anything more than a trend started by someone who never got their roots done, there are some cute different ways to get this done to where you don't look like a complete idiot. Trust me, I have seen some really nasty hair.
What To Do:
First of all you can either do this yourself, or you can have someone else do it for you. If you do it yourself you have a chance of it coming out looking like this mess. So here's the thing. I understand all you girls out there, including myself, are interested in this hair style but if you are going to do it try to keep it classy. The following picture are clearly not classy.
Some alternatives before you start, if you decide to do it yourself, which really isn't the best choice, BUT if you know what you're doing and you decide to do it remember this is permanent so you can use other ways before you decide your color. If you're going to do a crazy color, other than black, brown, blonde try using products like temporary hair dye, chalking and the old school food coloring and mayonnaise trick.
The purpose of these alternatives is so you don't end up like those pictures to your left. Don't think you can just dip your hair in dye, or start from your ends and work your way up. It doesn't work. Here's a clip on how to do it, at home, the right way.
Once you have figured out how to do this style, if you decided to do it yourself, make sure the color you are using is something classy. A lot of people will have crazy colors, which is cool, and others will have crazy colors that are not your typical rainbow so make sure you match your hair color with the appropriate shade. You want your Ombre to flow like highlights, hence why people think it was created by people who don't want to spend money on root touch ups. If you just do a straight across like you're cutting your hair you're going to look ridiculous.
If you decide to cut your hair, do it choppy, it looks more natural as you should do the same, or think of it as the same way when doing your Ombre.
Some people like the Ombre look that starts dark at your roots and fades to blonde or any other light color that you choose. That is usually what looks the best, unless your doing, my favorite, pink or teal, any color coming from your roots would look good, black or brown or blonde of course. Some people like to get creative and do pink on top and purple on the bottom (or whatever colors you choose) and to be honest that looks like crap. I don't know why people do that.
There are however tons of celebrities that have done the Ombre, clearly done by professionals, but still look good. Just to name a few:
1. Drew Barrymore
2. Kendall Jenner
3. Olivia Wilde
4. Khloe Kardashian
5. Sarah Jessica Parker
6. Jared Leto (what a babe)
There are many more celebrities who have gone Ombre, but to be honest there is a difference now between roots and Ombre. Most of what you will see is the typical brown and blonde, but you'll get some hair like Kendall Jenner to spice things up a bit. I have to say, her hair is adorable with her dark teal Ombre.
What It SHOULD Look Like
Now for the moment of truth. As we have all seen the crazy, disgusting, hair doesn't match nor does it look good. Here is what your hair, if it is done correctly, will come out looking like.
I would also like to add, if you are anything like me and extremely touchy when it comes to your hair I would ask your stylist, if you get it done professionally, questions how they do it, if they have pictures of ones they have done and how many clients they have had concerning the Ombre. Some stylist will get pissed because to them it is an insult of all insults! How dare you ask a professional if they do their work well!!! Well, I don't know you and i've met some people who have previously in the past got scissor happy and turned my beautiful platinum blonde locks into some golden blonde unhealthy fry pan. So I will ask.
Anyway, here is what your hair should turn out like if you have gotten it done correctly (:
Still Not Convinced?
If you still think an Ombre isn't supposed to look like those above pictures, let me show you some before and after. You can be the judge of what you think is appropriate to go out in public in, the Before or the After.
If you know someone who can come to your house and do your hair if you buy supplies, or if you are 100% confident you can do it. Then by all means, go for it!
If you are like me though, I would seek professional help. In a salon. Take your iPod and iPad and let your stylist do their work ;)
Now that you have a tutorial on how to do the Ombre, you have a little advice on some alternatives for trying it out, which is typically used if you want a different color like pink, red, teal, green whatever you choose, and you have seen how horribly wrong your hair will look if you don't Ombre it correctly. I hope you enjoy your new hair and remember if you are going to do this, I would suggest seeing a professional stylist to make sure. Or you can try it yourself and if you end up like one of those before pictures feel free to take it into a stylist, depending on who you go to you may get it a discount since they won't have much to do but clean it up. Who am I kidding, it's going to cost you some money.
Make sure you ask your stylist how well they do Ombres, maybe they have portfolio or some pictures to show you. NEVER go to someone new, always stick to your regular! I made that mistake and next thing I knew my hair was orange!
Hope you enjoyed my tips! and feel free to leave comments below if you have any other suggestions for readers (or myself).
GOOD LUCK!
